Dr. Taxis is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Nursing and Graduate Advisor. Throughout her career she has functioned as a consultant, educator, healthcare provider, and researcher. Her clinical work has focused primarily on providing care to patients with cancer and persons with mental health needs. She is also a Licensed Professional Counselor and is a Certified Nurse Educator. Her teaching interests include nursing education, healthcare ethics, culture, and psychosocial aspect of nursing. She is the recipient of the 2007 Dean's Excellence Clinical Faculty\Award for Professional Writing and Publications, 2005 Dean's Excellence Award for Research for Clinical Faculty and the 2002 Texas Excellence Teaching Award. Her research interests include the delivery of culturally competent care, particularly at end-of-life, and the diversification of the nursing workforce to include more people of color.
