Biography

Dr. Volker is an Associate Professor of Adult Health Nursing and Division Chair of the Holistic Adult Health faculty. Her research interest center around ethical dilemmas and decisions that adults with cancer, their families, and nurses experience within the context of terminal illness. Her current study, Patient Control, ethnicity, and End-of-Life Care, explores the nature of what patients with advanced cancer want regarding personal control and comfort at the end of life. Teaching interests include bioethics, theories of adult health nursing and qualitative research methods. Prior to this current appointment, she served as Director of Nursing Education and an adjuvant clinical ethicist at The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.
