Ms. Hentzen is an Instructor in Clinical Nursing. She joined the UT faculty in the spring of 2014. She has enjoyed a long career in nursing primarily in Labor and Delivery. She has worked as a staff nurse, clinical educator, and in family education.
Ms. Hentzen graduated from the University of Nebraska School of Nursing with a BSN in 1979. She completed her MSN at the University of Texas at Austin in the spring of 2013 with a focus in Maternity Nursing and Education.
Her clinical practice in Women's Services includes low and high risk OB. She has worked in community education directing a Fetal Alcohol Syndrome Prevention Program. While living in Denver, she coordinated a Family Education and Solace Program supporting the education needs of families and support services for those experiencing perinatal loss. She has worked in Labor and Delivery, Mother/Baby and clinical education in Nebraska, Colorado, Oklahoma and in Texas. She is currently certified as an NCC Inpatient-Obstetric Nurse and as a Childbirth Educator through Lamaze International.
Ms. Hentzen is an active member of AWHONN, the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses. She is an instructor for the AWHONN Fetal Heart Monitor Practices and Principle Program. She is also a Fellow with Lamaze International and has been a member since 1982. She was the recipient of the 2013 Caregiver of the Year award at St. David's South Austin Medical Center.
