Terry L. Jones, RN, PhD is an Assistant Professor of Nursing (tenure track) in the Graduate Program in Nursing Administration and Healthcare Systems Management. Dr. Jones teaches undergraduate and graduate courses focusing on various aspects of leadership, management, quality and safety, and evidence-based practice. She has been a nurse for over 25 years and has served in a variety of roles ranging from critical care staff nurse to Chief Nurse Executive in a large academic medical center and public hospital. Dr. Jones completed her PhD in 2004 at The University of Texas at Austin and was selected to participate in the NIH-Sponsored Clinical Scholars Program at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas from 2007-2010. She has been recognized as one of the Great 100 Nurses in Dallas-Ft. Worth and an Outstanding Graduate in her doctoral and undergraduate programs.

Dr. Jones’ program of research focuses on improving the nursing work environment and the quality and safety of nursing care in acute care hospitals. She is currently exploring relationships among measures of nursing work time quality and patient outcomes. Novel measures of work time quality in development by Dr. Jones include Dimensions of Nursing Work Time, Perceived Implicit Rationing of Nursing Care, Perceived Time Pressure, and Nursing Intentions Regarding Prioritization and Spending Time with Patients. Dr. Jones utilizes both radiofrequency identification technology (RFID) and the Transforming Care at the Bedside (TCAB) methodology in her research to capture nursing time allocation. She is a member of several professional nursing organizations to include the Academy of Medical Surgical Nursing, The American Organization of Nursing Executives, the American Nurses Association, and Sigma Theta Tau International. Dr. Jones also serves on the Advisory Council for the Texas Center for Quality & Patient Safety and is a reviewer for several research journals.
