Dr. Taxis is an Associate Professor of Clinical Nursing at The University of Texas at Austin School of Nursing where she teaches courses concentrating on nursing education, as well as nursing ethics, culture, and mental health issues in the delivery of healthcare services. Throughout her career, she has functioned as a consultant, educator, healthcare provider, and researcher. Her clinical work has focused primarily on providing care and resources to terminally patients and their families as well as combining her nursing practice and with the skills as a Licensed Professional Counselor to teach and provide care to persons with mental health concerns. Her research interests include the delivery of culturally competent care, particularly at end-of-life, and the diversification of the nursing workforce to include more people of color.  She is the recipient of the Dean’s Excellence Clinical Faculty Award for Professional Writing and Publications (2007), Dean’s Excellence Award for Research for Clinical Faculty (2005) and Texas Exs Texas Teaching Award (2003 and 2011).
