Blue Bins for Recycling aluminum Cans and Plastic Drinking Bottles (1's and 2's) only!

Recycling Aluminum and Plastic Bottles

Blue recycling bins for the collection of aluminum cans and plastic bottles (#1 and #2) have been placed on each floor of nursing school. Signs have been made to differentiate them from the paper recycling bins.

Our program accepts aluminum cans and #1 and #2 plastic bottles only. You can recycle plastic bottles, including coke bottles, milk jugs, and detergent bottles. You cannot recycle plastic cups, yogurt cups, or plastic tubs. Please do not put paper, glass, or trash in our bins. Also, please help us by emptying out your beverage before recycling it; full beverages make a mess for our volunteers (who are currently nursing school staff and faculty). Bottle caps can't be recycled, so you can throw those away.

Cans and bottles are collected weekly (Tuesdays) and set outside for a Facilities student employee to pick up and deliver to a local company. Collecting involves staff and faculty going to each floor and putting into one or two plastic bags all of the cans and bottles that have been placed in the various bins throughout the building. These bags are then placed at the bottom of the hill on the north side of the building for pick-up Tuesday afternoon.

The Green Team needs volunteers to help in the collecting task. Please contact Marian Morris if you can help.

The location of the indoor aluminum can and bottle bins is as follows:

  • 1st floor: Vending machines and hallway parallel to Red River
  • 2nd floor: By water fountain (left of elevators) and by faculty/staff mailboxes
  • 3rd floor: Outside of the student lounge (front of elevators), and in the graduate student and faculty lounges
  • 4th floor: Front of main elevators and by elevators on the northwest and southwest corners
  • 5th floor: Learning Center and Ruth Brady’s office, 5.130
