Clothes, Shoes, and Household Items
Take old clothes and other household items to Goodwill, the Salvation Army, or other charities. The Arc of Texas and the Paralyzed Veterans will pick up items from your house. Don’t throw anything away. Put it out on the corner of your lawn and you will be surprised at how fast it disappears.
One World Running has been collecting, washing, and sending shoes, T-shirts, and shorts to needy athletes and children around the worlds. Donate your still-wearable shoes and help athletes in need in Africa, Central America, and Haiti.
Nike’s Reuse-A-Shoe program collects, processes, and recycles worn-out athletic shoes of any brand into material used in sports surfaces like basketball courts, tennis courts, athletic fields, running tracks and playgrounds. Take your worn out athletic shoe (of any brand) and go to the nearest Reuse-A-Shoe drop-off location. They have locations at some Nike Stores, other retail stores, athletic clubs, schools and colleges.
Appliances
Many stores will recycle your old appliance when you purchase a new one. Goodwill accepts working appliances. You can contact the Steel Recycling Institute to recycle your appliances.
