Students

As of Fall 2007 the School of Nursing had 1005 students, 733 undergraduates (447 pre-nursing, 296 upper-division nursing, 14 RN-BSN) and 248 graduate students (145 Alternate Entry MSN, 51 MSN, 52 PhD).

We graduated 161 new nurses in academic year 2006-2007.

Facilities

The School of Nursing is located at 1700 Red River St. All administrative offices are found on the second floor. Classrooms and the multi-purpose room are found on the first floor. The third floor houses the Cain Center for Nursing Research, the student lounges, and student organization offices. The fourth floor has faculty offices, the Center for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention Research (CHPR), classrooms, and the Simulation Lab. The fifth floor has faculty offices, the media center, and the Learning Center.

Research

School of Nursing faculty are involved in research in health promotion and disease prevention among underserved populations. Areas of research strength include adolescent and women's health, quality of life among persons with disabilities, and cross-disciplinary research that incorporates physiological and technological advances into a nursing focus.

Service

Three nurse-run clinics, the Community Women's Wellness Center, which provides breast cancer screenings and health education for underserved in Austin, the Family Wellness Center, which provides primary healthcare for underserved families in Austin, and the Children's Wellness Center, which provides primary healthcare for 3000 children and their families in Del Valle.
