Dr. Eun-Ok Im Named to Professorship
At University of Texas at Austin School of Nursing
AUSTIN, Texas— Dr. Eun-Ok Im, an internationally known expert in cross-cultural women’s health issues, has been named to The La Quinta Motor Inns, Inc. Centennial Professorship in Nursing at The University of Texas at Austin School of Nursing.
Im has been a faculty member in the School of Nursing since 2002 and is a fellow of the American Academy of Nursing.
Her contributions to nursing include a research program that adopts Internet and computer technologies to eliminate gender and ethnic disparities in the management of cancer pain and menopausal symptoms. She has taken the lead in this burgeoning field, and her National Institutes of Health-funded research projects totaling more than $3 million are among the first of their kind to use these technologies to build nursing knowledge.
Im has gained national and international recognition as a methodologist and theorist in international cross-cultural nursing research through more than 60 peer-reviewed publications and over 100 professional presentations. Her published articles on feminist critique, situation-specific theories and Internet research methodologies are cited by many researchers around the world. Her work on situation-specific theories has been widely accepted as a new type of nursing theory that can be easily applied to nursing. She has also written about the ethics of Internet research.
The La Quinta Motor Inns, Inc. Centennial Professorship was established in June 1982 in honor of the centennial of the University. In funding the professorship, La Quinta Motor Inns, Inc. Chairman Sam Barshop wanted to recognize a faculty member nationally recognized in nursing education and administration.
