Master of Science in NursingThe Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) program is designed to provide the opportunity for advanced study in select areas of nursing science, professional foundations, related sciences, and modes of systematic inquiry related to advanced and specialized professional nursing practice. This program requires students to have a current Registered Nurse license and hold either a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree, or a non-nursing baccalaureate degree and an Associate Degree in Nursing or Nursing Diploma*. MSN students can choose from one of nine concentration areas on which to focus (click on the link for a program description and degree plan):
Each concentration area follows a designated plan of coursework. A Gerontology Portfolio may also be completed. MSN Bridge ProgramThis pathway into the MSN program is designed for those who hold a non-nursing bachelors degree AND an associates degree in nursing and an RN license. The program has three pre-requisite courses: an upper-division statistics course, N377 Leadership and Management of Nursing Care (offered in Fall and Spring) and N 484Q Public Health Nursing (offered in Summer only). These courses should be taken as a non-degree seeking graduate nursing student. Applicants to the MSN Bridge program may have to take these pre-requisite courses prior to notification of admission to a degree program. Post-Master’s Certificate ProgramThe School of Nursing also offers the Family Nurse Practitioner and Pediatric Nurse Practitioner concentrations as Post-Master’s certificate programs designed for students already holding an MSN from an accredited institution. Post-Master’s Certificate Program students will complete the didactic and clinical hours necessary to take the national certification exam in their speciality area. They will not, howerver, earn a second MSN degree. Gerentology ProtfolioA portfolio in gerentology consisting of courses and seminars in aging may be completed. Advanced Practice Nursing (APN)The School of Nursing offers advanced practice nursing preparation in the following three areas: Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS), Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP), and Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP).
