James (Ron) Hilliard
Outstanding Graduating Graduate Student
James (Ron) Hilliard is co-recipient of the Outstanding Graduate Student Award. As a student Ron has memberships with American Nurses Association, Texas Nurses Association and American Trauma Society. Now working at the National Emergency Response and Rescue Training Center as a program coordinator he works with community and state public health leaders all over the U.S. to develop useable disaster response plans. In addition, Ron has worked with the Texas A&M Health Science Center School of Rural Public Health on rural preparedness for large-scale health care disasters and played a crucial role in the development of the pandemic influenza plan. Ron is a trained disaster nurse with the American Red Cross and is active in making elected officials, public health, healthcare professionals and other community stakeholders aware of bioterrorism and preparedness for major disasters.
Kitty Woo
Outstanding Graduating Graduate Student
Kitty Woo is co-recipient of the Outstanding Graduate Student Award. She is described as organized, caring and professional. As president of the Association of Nurses in Graduate School, Kitty interactively communicated with her peers and UT faculty and staff. She has been rewarded many scholarships, including Endowed Fellowship in Nursing Systems and the Seton Northwest Hospital Volunteers Health Career Scholarship. She is involved with American Nurses Association, Texas Nurse Association, Texas Public Health Association, and a variety of other community activities. Now working as a staff nurse at Seton Northwest, she works directly with the care of patients and frequently collaborates with health care providers. At the start of her studies, Kitty describes herself as a shy and timid student working to perfect herself as a nurse. Now, as a mentor to nursing students that work on her unit, she has helped her peers work through the same problems and struggles that she had as a beginning nurse.
Sheradon Nicole Robbins
Outstanding Graduating BSN Student
Sheradon Robbins is the recipient of the Outstanding Graduating BSN Student Award. She is a member of UTNSA, Senate of College Councils, Senate Leadership Committee and has served as head of the Texas Exes Teaching Award Committee for the School of Nursing. A few of her volunteer activities include teaching how to take vital signs to middle school students in Round Rock, stand Down for the Homeless, Race for the Cure, tour guide at Parent’s Weekend and spoke on the student panel. Sheradon worked in the Nurse Externship program through Children’s Medical Center of Dallas where she worked on the cardiac floor. Exemplifying a passion to further her knowledge and demonstrating excellent interactive skills with young patients, Sheradon will return to work at the Children’s Medical Center of Dallas.
