Dean's Corner

The School of Nursing continues to offer the best education possible for our students and future leaders while also providing vital services to the community and conducting significant federally-funded research programs.

Dean Dolores SandsIn response to national, regional and local needs, the School of Nursing is preparing to offer a new Neonatal Nurse Practitioner program in fall 2009 and a new Acute Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner program beginning summer, 2009. Another graduate program with extensive community support will also begin in fall 2009: the Family Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner program.

Agreements are complete between the University and the Central Texas Community Healthcare Center allowing the School of Nursing’s Family Wellness Center and Children’s Wellness Center to serve as one of the Central Texas Community Healthcare Center Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHC). This partnership will enable the Centers to see patients from the Central Texas Community Healthcare Center’s Medical Assistance Program (MAP), while also providing funding for staffing and operations.

Through these programs and partnerships, the School of Nursing is able to respond to critical community health issues. Thank you for your continued support of our School and for helping us make a difference in our students and clients’ lives.

Warm regards,
Dolores Sands
