Texas Nursing Association (TNA) District 5 Scholarship

Purpose Statement

The Texas Nurses Association District 5 Annual Scholarships promote professional nursing in the central Texas area by supporting the continued education of future nurse leaders. Scholarship recipients will articulate a commitment to educational accomplishment and professional goals to enhance the delivery of quality health care in Texas through practice, research or teaching. Recipients will be chosen for characteristics consistent with future professional success.

ADN Award

  • For students who have successfully completed at least 25% of the Nursing program curriculum, with a maintained GPA of at least 2.5.
  • One recipient will receive a $1,000 scholarship, paid as $500 per semester for two semesters.
  • Award can be utilized to cover tuition, books, fees, and/or living expenses.
    Proof of course completion and GPA are required after the first semester in order to receive the second half of the award payment.
  • Recipient will be an acknowledged guest at the annual TNA District 5 Banquet. Attendance is strongly encouraged.

BSN Award

  • For students who have successfully completed at least 25% of the Nursing program curriculum, with a maintained GPA of at least 2.5.
  • One recipient will receive a $2,000 scholarship, paid as $1,000 per semester for two semesters.
  • Award can be utilized to cover tuition, books, fees, and/or living expenses.
    Proof of course completion and GPA are required after the first semester in order to receive the second half of the award payment.
  • Recipient will be an acknowledged guest at the annual TNA District 5 Banquet. Attendance is strongly encouraged.

Graduate Degree Award

  • For students who have successfully completed at least 12 semester hours of graduate work leading to an advanced degree in Nursing or a related field (such as education), with a maintained GPA of at least 3.0.
  • One recipient will receive a $3,000 scholarship, paid as $1,500 per semester for two semesters.
  • Award can be utilized to cover tuition, books, fees, research and/or living expenses.
  • Proof of course completion and GPA are required after the first semester in order to receive the second half of the award payment.
  • Recipient will be an acknowledged guest at the annual TNA District 5 Banquet. Attendance is strongly encouraged.

Eligibility Requirements

  • ADN and BSN applicants must be full or part time students attending an approved program at an accredited School of Nursing. RN license is not required.
  • Graduate Degree applicants must be full or part time students attending an approved program in Nursing or a related field at an accredited university. An RN license is required if a non-Nursing graduate degree is being pursued.
  • Demonstrated financial need.
  • Legal resident of TNA District 5 area (U.S. Citizen or Alien with U.S. Permanent Resident Status/Alien Registration Number).
  • Nominations/Referrals from TNA District 5 members preferred.

Complete the following check list to assure all components of the application are received by TNA District 5 by March 22nd.

  • Applicant name and address
  • Award level applicant is seeking (AND, BSN or Graduate Degree)

Additional Guidelines

  • Application materials must be turned in as a complete package, on or before the annual deadline.
  • It is the responsibility of each applicant/nominee to get recommendation forms back from their references and turned in with their applications.
  • It is the responsibility of the applicant/nominee to follow up with their school(s) to obtain all the necessary documentation for their transcript(s).
  • Incomplete applications or those received after the deadline will not be accepted. NO EXCEPTIONS will be made.
