Spring Convocation for Graduating Students Location: Bass Concert Hall The convocation ceremony will be held in the Performing Arts Center’s Bass Concert Hall, 23rd and Robert Dedman Drive. More details will follow later in the semester about the ceremony and line-up. Academic Regalia: Academic Regalia is required. Caps and gowns can be obtained from the University Co-op. The Graduation Department will open March 7, 2007. Complete information on purchase or rental of caps and gowns will be available on the University Co-op web site by March 7. On the left side of this webpage, click Regalia, under Graduation. PhD Regalia: Rental is approximately $45.00 (mortar board, gown, and hood) or $65.00 (tam, gown and hood) and should be arranged by mid-April to avoid a rush fee and guarantee UT colors for hood. For information about purchasing regalia, please contact the Co-op in early March. Masters Regalia: Purchase is approximately $42.00 for cap, gown, tassel and hood. You should purchase by early May. BSN Regalia: Purchase is approximately $45.00 for the cap, gown, stole and tassel. You should purchase by early May. Invitations: Graduation announcements and invitations may be purchased at the Co-op as well as other locations. It takes about 3-5 business days after ordering to receive the invitations. Guest Tickets: Tickets will not be needed for your guests and there is no limit on the number of guests you may invite to the ceremony. However, if you plan to have more than 20 guests, please let Sue Walker know this. Photography: A photographer will be at the ceremony to take pictures of each candidate as they are congratulated by Dean Sands. A card will be given to you to fill out for the announcement of your name. The photography company will also use the card to mail your photo and you will be given the opportunity at that time to make a purchase if you choose. Great Texas EXit: After our convocation, the Texas Exes invite all UT graduates to the Great Texas EXit reception at the Etter-Harbin Alumni Center, 2110 San Jacinto, across from DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium. You can drop in anytime until 6:00 p.m. on 5/18 or from 10:00 am – 6 pm on 5/19. Parking: All UT parking garages will be free and open to the public on Friday, 5/18 and Saturday, 5/19. The San Jacinto Garage (2401 San Jacinto) and Manor Garage (2017 Robert Dedman Dr) are near Bass Concert Hall. Parking is also unrestricted in all “C” lots on these days. Please allow adequate time for parking. Guests: Guests will enter Bass Concert Hall through the front lobby. The doors to the Concert Hall will open as soon as all guests attending the previous ceremony have exited the auditorium through the side exits (approximately 45 minutes prior to our noon ceremony). Guests with mobility impairments should enter through the southeast side entrance of the Concert Hall. A house manager will admit and seat these guests before the lobby opens. If guests will require special accommodations due to a disability, please contact Sue Walker (232-4799) as soon as possible. Arrival: Students should arrive by 11:00 a.m. You will check in at the table in the backstage hallway, entering through the PAC west loading dock entrance. Please note there will not be a secure place for you to leave personal items, so you may wish to leave these with guests or family members. All students will line up in the backstage hallway alphabetically in groups according to doctoral, master's, and bachelor's candidates. Recessional: The ceremony will last 1.5 to 2 hours. At the end of the ceremony, following the singing of "The Eyes of Texas," the recessional will begin. Graduates will exit the building on the east side. All guests should remain seated until the graduates have cleared the auditorium, then exit from the east or west side; the south doors will be blocked by guests waiting for the next ceremony. Guests and graduates can reunite on the east lawn. Reception: The Texas Exes invite all UT graduates to the Great Texas EXit reception at the Etter-Harbin Alumni Center, 2110 San Jacinto, across from DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium from 10:00 am – 7:00 pm on Friday, 5/18 and 10:00 am – 6:00 pm on 5/19. The University of Texas at Austin’s Evening Commencement Ceremony is Saturday, May 19, 2007, 8:00 p.m., Main Mall (in the event of rain, Erwin Special Events Center). So each graduate will be assured a seat at the evening ceremony tickets are required for degree candidates. Tickets will be available beginning May 7 (through Sat., May 19) at the Frank Erwin Center and Performing Arts Center box offices. Tickets are free; just bring your UT student ID. Degree candidates will be required to present a ticket when lining up for the Grand Procession. Seating for guests is open and is on a first-come, first-served basis. |
