Campaign for Texas

The Campaign for Texas is an eight-year, $3 billion comprehensive fundraising effort to increase The University of Texas at Austin’s national competitiveness and global impact. After a momentum-building quiet phase that began September 1, 2006, the campaign was announced publicly in October 2008, coinciding with the University’s 125th Anniversary.

The need for a major capital campaign was articulated by the Commission of 125, a blue-ribbon advisory group that laid out ambitious goals for the University’s coming 25 years. The commission recommended the University develop a new undergraduate core curriculum and that it find visionary leaders for academic departments and research centers while giving them the resources and authority to achieve their goals.

The commission’s operational recommendations include reducing the student-faculty ratio to create a richer atmosphere for learning; improving graduate-student support to attract the best faculty and students; and enhancing campus facilities to modernize the University’s beautiful but aging campus.
