First-year Interest Groups (FIGS)

First-year Interest Groups (FIGs) seek to provide new students with academic and social support during their transition from high school to the University. Each Nursing FIG consists of approximately 25 students who enroll in three common prerequisite courses and participate in a weekly FIG Seminar.

This structure creates:

  • enhanced opportunities for small-group activities
  • opportunities to learn more about the nursing profession
  • opportunities for collaborative learning (e.g., study groups)
  • promotion of active, independent learning.
