$60,000 Gift Supports the Children’s Wellness Center

Posted: July 6, 2008

The Michael and Susan Dell Foundation is donating $60,000 to The University of Texas at Austin School of Nursing to support the Children’s Wellness Center (CWC). The funds will be used to cover operating expenses. This level of support enables the CWC to continue providing children in Del Valle primary healthcare. Key services include, monitoring of children at risk of diabetes and other health conditions as a result of obesity, and parenting and health education classes.

The Children’s Wellness Center, a nurse-managed, school-based health center, was established in 1996 by The University of Texas at Austin School of Nursing in partnership with the Del Valle Independent School District (DVISD). It provides services and outreach for DVISD children ages birth through 21 years. The Children’s Wellness Center is the only provider of pediatric health care services in the 174-square-mile DVISD. The primary mission of the CWC is serving the children and families of Del Valle while also serving as an interdisciplinary site for research and model clinical site for undergraduate and graduate nursing students.

The University of Texas School of Nursing along with the Children’s Wellness Center would like to sincerely thank Michael & Susan Dell Foundation for this generous gift.
