Shannon Patton Honored as "Inspiring Professor" in Alcalde Magazine
Posted: June 21, 2011
Shannon Patton, instructor in clinical nursing, was named one of 10 inspiring professors on campus in the May/June issue of the Alcalde magazine. The recipients of the new award were chosen based on nominations from alumni.
"The Texas 10" is expected to be an annual list.
Patton works in the school's simulation lab and graduated from the School of Nursing with a master’s degree. She assists faculty as they identify types of simulations they would like to use.
"I enjoy working in the simulation lab with the faculty and students at each level of the program," said Patton. "I get to work side by side with faculty to plan, design and implement the simulations. I particularly like creating a realistic setting for the scenarios.
It is an amazing experience to directly observe the student's improvement each semester. Typically, faculty only see the student one semester. Simulation is designed to help students gain confidence in their ability to think critically and utilize psychomotor skills in a patient care setting. Knowing this experience will improve patient safety and care in the future is very rewarding."
