Professor inducted as Fellow of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners

Diane Tyler, PhD, RN, FNP-BC, FAAN, was named a Fellow of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners during an induction ceremony at the association's 29th annual national conference. In addition to her teaching duties, Dr. Tyler is director of the School of Nursing's nurse practitioner programs. Her research focuses on weight and health of children and their families.

Faculty member appointed to the National Association of Clinical Nurse Specialists' board of directors

Gayle Timmerman, PhD, RN, CNS, FAAN, associate dean for academic affairs and associate professor, was one of two Texas nurses to join the National Association of Clinical Nurse Specialists' (NACNS) board of directors. She will serve a two-year term. The newly elected board members demonstrate leadership in nursing education, practice, research and administration. NACNS represents thousands of clinical nurse specialists nationwide. Each board member serves for two years.

Nursing professor named one of 100 distinguished alumni of Ohio State University College of Nursing

Gayle Timmerman, PhD, RN, CNS, has been named one of 100 distinguished alumni of Ohio State University College of Nursing. The award recognizes alums who have helped to transform health care during their careers. In honor of OSU College of Nursing's 100th anniversary, 100 nurses were recognized.

Nursing professor appointed to Austin City Council Advisory Commission

Miyong Kim, PhD, RN, FAAN, was recently appointed to the Asian American Quality of Life Advisory Commission. Dr. Kim is the LaQuinta Centennial Professor of Nursing at the University of Texas at Austin School of Nursing and associate vice president for Community Health Engagement. She is an internationally respected researcher whose community-based participatory research reduces health disparities among traditionally underserved ethnic minority populations.

The Asian American Quality of Life Advisory Commission advises the Austin City Council on issues related to the Asian American Resource Center and provides ongoing guidance and support for the City’s Asian American quality of life initiatives.

Faculty member receives Nurse Practitioner Award for Excellence

Sheryl Innerarity, RN, PhD, FNP, ACNS, has been selected for the 2014 AANP Nurse Practitioner State Award for Excellence from Texas. The NP State Award for Excellence is presented annually by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) to an NP in each state who has demonstrated excellence above their peers in NP clinical practice. Dr. Innerarity is an associate professor for Clinical Nursing in the Adult Holistic Health Division. Her teaching responsibilities are primarily within the Adult Clinical Nurse Specialist Program.
