  2. Pharmacological Treatment Strategies. Program 2. 22 min.
    Examines the two major groups of pharmacological treatment modalities: non-narcotic and narcotic. Adjuvant medications in pain management are also explored. Guidelines on treatment approaches for the types and delivery routes of medications are presented. Program discusses the etiologies and treatment trajectoris for acute, chronic non-malignant, and chronic malignant pain.
  3. Physical and Cognitive-Behavioral Approaches to Pain Management. Program 3. 22 min.
    Program discusses physical and cognitive-behavioral modalities, with a review of complimenary treatment regimens. Emphasis is placed on how these approaches are used for particular inpatient and outpatient populations. A central theme of the presentation is the importance of effective education of patients and the need for their active involvement in their programs.

    Program describes techniques used in the assessment and management of pain for patient populations with special needs - those who are cognitively impaired, deny or under report pain, refuse pain relief, are unconscious, or are elderly. Specific guidelines are provided on how to modify assessment techniques, medication management, and treatment modalities to effectively care for these populations.
