Congratulations to Graduate School Graduates

As the semester concludes and commencement approaches, I wanted to congratulate our graduating master’s and doctoral students and provide resources for students attending this weekend’s ceremonies. And to those of you continuing your studies at the University, I look forward to celebrating your achievements one day soon.

UT Grad Student Among Those Awarded the 2024-2025 Rome Prize

The American Academy in Rome recently announced the winners of the 2024–2025 Rome Prize, which includes a Ph.D. Candidate from UT Austin. The Rome Prize was awarded to 31 American artists and scholars, who will each receive a stipend, workspace and room and board for five to ten months at the Academy’s eleven-acre campus in Rome, starting this September.

How Potatoes, Corn and Beans Led to Smart Windows Breakthrough

Smart windows are an exciting technology, potentially reducing energy costs of large buildings by making them more efficient. A study from researchers at UT Austin advances this work through a new type of electrochromic device and materials. The device uses common, low-cost, sustainable building blocks such as amylose, a natural polymer found in corn, potatoes and beans.

Four Graduate Students Win at 2024 Empower Your Pitch Competition

On April 11, 2024, four graduate students took home awards at The University of Texas at Austin's inaugural Empower Your Pitch competition. The top three award winners will receive a funded trip to Washington, D.C. to celebrate and perform, and compete with winners from Johns Hopkins University.

Held on April 5, the event explored topics ranging from immigration policies and healthcare disparities to environmental justice, education, and the 2024 election.
