2009 Outstanding Graduate Adviser Award
Suggested Criteria for Nomination
One award of $4,000 is offered annually to recognize a Graduate Advise who has demonstrated outstanding service to his/her graduate program. Nominations may be submitted by Deans, Department Chairs, and Program Directors.
To assist in identifying
award nominees, the following list of criteria is suggested:
- The nominee's role in recruiting and retaining
high quality graduate students
- The nominee's availability/accessibility to
graduate students and sensitivity to their needs
- The nominee's record of preventing as well
as resolving problems
- The nominee's contribution to the professional
and academic development of graduate students
- The nominee's effectiveness in administering
the graduate program
- The nominee's contribution to governance of graduate programs (e.g., serving on university committees concerning graduate education or the Graduate Assembly) and his/her ability to work effectively with faculty and other administrators on issues pertaining to graduate education
- The nominee's length of service as Graduate Adviser
Evidence of outstanding service may be presented
in a variety of ways, including
but not limited
to the following:
- Relevant graduate program documents and
materials developed by the nominee (for example, brochures, handouts,
letters, procedure guides, etc.)
- Implementation of activities and special projects that benefit the graduate program and graduate students
- Letters from current or former students in
the program
- Letters from members of the Graduate Studies Committee (GSC), other faculty, or administrators familiar with the nominee's administrative record
