Outstanding Alumnus Award

FRANK L. COLE, Professor of Nursing at The University of Texas Health Science Center, received his doctorate in Nursing from The University of Texas at Austin in 1988.  Dr. Cole is a highly esteemed educator, researcher, and clinician.  His current research focuses on the education, role development, and utilization of nurse practitioners in emergency departments.  He has also conducted numerous funded research projects in the areas of HIV/AIDS, HIV prevention, and health promotion.

Dr. Cole has published numerous articles concerning advanced practice nurses in emergency care and is the recipient of prestigious national awards from the nursing profession.  He is a fellow of the American Academy of Nursing, the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, and the Academy of Emergency Nursing. 

The Graduate School has awarded the Frank L. Cole Fellowship for 2006-2007 to Patricia Hamilton-Solum, a doctoral student in Nursing.
