Outstanding Dissertation Award
PATRICIA L. RICHARDS - Sociology. Dr. Richards' dissertation, Expanding Women's Citizenship? The Representation of Pobladora and Mapuche Women in the Chilean State, examines how various women's groups are vying for political representation in the newly democratic Chilean State. The dissertation contributes to the study of social movements and the problems confronting all gender-based identity politics, and will soon be published as a book by Rutgers University Press. Dr. Richards is currently an assistant professor of sociology and women's studies at the University of Georgia. Dissertation supervisors: Bryan Roberts and Christine Williams.
