Outstanding Graduate Teaching Award
KARL W. BUTZER, Raymond C. Dickson Centennial Professor of Liberal Arts in the Department of Geography and the Environment, received his bachelor's and master's degrees from McGill University in Montreal and his doctoral degree from the University of Bonn. He joined the UT faculty in 1984 and specializes in geomorphology, climate and global environmental change, geoarchaeology, and human adaptations to environmental change in Africa, Spain, Australia, and Mexico. Dr. Butzer is the recipient of numerous national and international honors and is member of both the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the National Academy of Sciences.
Dr. Butzer's students frequently remark that he is not only an exceptional mentor and guide in their fieldwork, but also an inspiration for them to become teachers. It is noteworthy that four of Dr. Butzer's students are past recipients of the University's Outstanding Dissertation Award.
Dr. Butzer received his award for Outstanding Graduate Teaching in 2005.
