Outstanding Graduate Teaching Award

RICHARD SHIFF received his bachelor's degree from Harvard College and his master's and doctoral degrees from Yale University.  He holds the Effie Marie Cain Regents' Chair in Art and has been a member of the UT faculty in the Department of Art and Art History since 1989. Dr. Shiff is credited with strengthening the teaching focus of the department and achieving international prominence for the graduate program through the Center for the Study of Modernism, which he both created and directs.

Dr. Shiff's commitment to advising, teaching, and mentoring, especially his ability to foster a sense of exploration and discovery, are frequently cited by both his colleagues and students.  Many of Dr. Shiff's students have achieved recognition in their own careers as educators and curators of art institutions and museums throughout the nation.
