Donald D. Harrington Endowment Fellowships
The Donald D. Harrington Graduate Fellows Program was established by Sybil Harrington as a tribute to her late husband. She envisioned a program that would support gifted and ambitious young scholars at The University of Texas at Austin, at a level that would equal or exceed the levels of prestigious longstanding programs at other institutions around the world. These talented students would, in turn, share their knowledge and success with future generations, perpetuating the legacy and memory of Don Harrington for all time. The University of Texas at Austin is privileged to be the home of this preeminent graduate research program. The Harrington Fellows Program is designed to attract outstanding master's and doctoral candidates from around the world. Fellowships are awarded annually to the most highly qualified applicants or nominees in the following categories:
Harrington Dissertation Fellows
To be eligible for a Harrington Dissertation Fellowship, a student must be currently enrolled and must be a candidate for a doctoral degree--Ph.D., Ed.D., or DMA--at The University of Texas at Austin. Students who satisfy these conditions, and who are nominated by their programs for Continuing University Fellowships, will be considered for Harrington Dissertation Fellowships.
Application Deadline: January 18, 2008
Stipend: $35,000 for 12 months; tuition and required fees; an allowance for student medical insurance, $2,000 for miscellaneous expenses.
Harrington Doctoral Fellows
Each year the new Harrington Doctoral Fellows will be chosen from among the successful external applicants to programs leading to doctoral degree--Ph.D., Ed.D., or DMA--at The University of Texas at Austin. To be eligible, a student must not be a current or former graduate student at The University of Texas at Austin (undergraduates at The University of Texas at Austin are eligible). Students who already have Master's degrees from other universities are eligible. A Harrington Doctoral Fellow can earn a Master's Degree in the process of completing the doctoral work. The Harrington Doctoral Fellowship can be a one-year or three-year award. In the case of a three-year award, funding after the first year is contingent on the Fellow's making satisfactory academic progress.
Harrington Master's Fellows
Each year the new Harrington Master's Fellows will be chosen from among the successful external applicants to programs leading to professional or terminal master's degrees--for example, the MFA, MSSW, or MSLIS--at The University of Texas at Austin. To be eligible, a student must not be a current or former graduate student at The University of Texas at Austin (undergraduates at The University of Texas at Austin are eligible). The Harrington Master's Fellowship may be a one-year or two-year award. In the case of a two-year award, funding after the first year is contingent on the Fellow's making satisfactory academic progress.
Application Deadline for Harrington Doctoral and Master's
Fellowships:
You should contact the Graduate Adviser or web site of your program to
see if there is a special deadline for application in order for you to be considered
for a Harrington Fellowship. You should understand that all programs must have
completed their review of Harrington prospects by February 1, so even if no
deadline is posted by your program, you should get your application in early
to receive full consideration.
