Owen A. Callahan
Owen Callahan's research is broadly concerned with the structural aspects of hydrothermal systems or more specifically, the conditions of faulting and fracturing within rocks that help to localize hot water and mineral resources.
Motivating his studies is the premise that hydrothermal features occur in particular situations in place and time. By contributing to our knowledge of the geologic factors influencing where and when these systems occur, Owen hopes to help improve future exploration and development efforts. Ultimately, more geothermal development means more green, baseload power is available to the national energy grid.
The Powers Fellowship has afforded Owen the extra time needed to craft his own direction while at The University of Texas at Austin.
