Frequently Asked Questions About Convocation

Q: How long is the ceremony?
A: Approximately 2 hours.

Q: If I do not complete all requirements for my degree this semester, may I participate in convocation?
A: No. All degree requirements must be fulfilled to walk across the stage.

Q: If I completed all my degree requirements in a past semester but am not currently a student, will I be able to participate in convocation?
A: Yes. All summer or fall 2009 graduates or spring 2010 candidates are eligible to participate in the spring 2010 convocation ceremony. August and December 2010 degree candidates are not eligible to march in this ceremony.

Q: Will I receive my diploma at the ceremony?
A: No. Six weeks after the graduation date, the Office of the Registrar will mail your diploma to the permanent address you have listed in your UT directory information.

Q: Will my name be read aloud?
A: Yes. Each degree candidate will have his or her name read aloud, will be hooded, and will walk across the stage.

Q: How do I know the colors that should be on my academic hood and tassel?
A: The University Co-op has charts to determine the colors of your college/school. UT uses the "Academic Costume Code and Ceremony Guide" by the American Council on Education.
