| Description: | The New Agendas for Media Literacy Conference on June 6-7, 2008 convenes new media scholars from across the United States for a rich dialogue about the potential of digital communication for learning. Topics include the uses of a wide range of digital literacy in gaming, virtual environments, formal schooling and in informal, community-based settings. The event kicks off with a keynote speech on Friday, June 6 at 5pm by noted literacy scholar, James Paul Gee, professor at Arizona State University and author of numerous publications, including What Video Games Have to Teach Us About Literacy and Learning. Rodney Gibbs, Executive Studio Director of Amaze Entertainment, a local game development studio in Austin, will introduce the afternoon sessions.
The conference is part of the New Agendas series, hosted by The University of Texas at Austin, College of Communication. New Agendas for Media Literacy is located in the Lady Bird Johnson room (CMA5.160) on the University of Texas at Austin campus and is open to the public. Seating is limited.
