BIOGRAPHY

Biow earned a Ph.D. in Italian Language and Literature from Johns Hopkins University. He is the author of "The Culture of Cleanliness in Renaissance Italy" (Cornell Univ. Press, 2006) and "Doctors, Ambassadors, Secretaries: Humanism and Professions in Renaissance Italy" (Univ. of Chicago Press, 2002). His current book project addresses strategies for being conspicuous in Renaissance Italy. Biow's research has been supported by a Guggenheim Foundation fellowship (2006-07) and a National Endowment for the Humanities fellowship (1996-97).
