BIOGRAPHY

Dr. Josephs examines behavioral consequences of the interaction between the stress axis and the reproductive axis of the endocrine system. He looks at changes in hormone levels and how these changes affect our well being. His current projects include: (a) the devastating effects of chemical castration on men with prostate cancer, (b) how changes in certain hormones create a vulnerability to stress and the consequences this has for clinical depression, and (c) which hormonal changes place men at risk for not noticing disease symptoms, leading to long delays in symptom reporting. This effect (symptom under-reporting) often has tragic consequences.
