BIOGRAPHY
Aletha C. Huston is the Pricilla Pond Flawn Regents Professor of Child Development at the University of Texas at Austin. She earned her Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of Minnesota. She is a Principal Investigator in the assessment of child and family impacts of the New Hope Project, a study of the effects on children and families of parents? participation in a work-based program to reduce poverty Huston is a member of the MacArthur Network on Successful Pathways Through Middle Childhood, and she is an Investigator in the NICHD Study of Early Child Care, a longitudinal study following a national sample of children from birth through middle childhood. She edited Children in Poverty: Child Development and Public Policy, and has written numerous articles on poverty and children. She is the first author of Big World, Small Screen: The Role of Television in American Society, which won the Award for Distinguished Contribution to Psychology and the Media from The Division of Media Psychology of the American Psychological Association in 1992. She has won numerous research awards, including the Urie Bronfenbrenner Award for Lifetime Contributions to Developmental Psychology in the Service of Science and Society and the Nicholas Hobbs award for Research and Child Advocacy from the American Psychological Association.
