BIOGRAPHY
Richard Morrisett's areas of specialization during his graduate studies and post-doctoral training at Duke University were in biochemical approaches to neuropharmacology and electrophysiologically based approaches, respectively. More recently, his field of concentration has primarily been in the area of alcohol-related brain disorders, especially in relation to their biological basis. By utilizing electrophysiological recording techniques (patch clamp), he assesses alterations in information processing in intact brain tissue to investigate various questions in alcohol neurobiology. Morrisett has also contributed to the field of basic synaptic physiology, especially in relation to questions about synaptic plasticity and seizure disorders. He sits on the Alcohol and Toxicology Study Section (ALTX-3) for the National Institutes of Health. This review committee oversees the funding of research proposals for all alcohol related brain disorders. He is the recipient of the Young Investigator Award for the Research Society for Alcoholism (1994), and the Young Investigator Award for the University of Nebraska College of Medicine (1996). Additionally, he has been an NIH/NIAAA Alcohol and Toxicology Study Section Regular Member (since 1998), and a Journal of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics Editorial Advisory Board member(since 1998).
