BIOGRAPHY

Anthony L. Brown is an assistant professor in the department of curriculum and instruction at the University of Texas at Austin. Anthony holds a B.A and M.A. in political science from California State University-Long Beach. In the summer of 2006 he completed a PhD in curriculum and instruction from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Anthony is a former classroom teacher and school administrator, whose scholarly interests focus on the education experiences of African American males. He is also interested in the ways African American history is constructed and presented in K-12 curriculum. Anthony's work has been published in numerous book chapters and encyclopedias. He recently has co-authored an historical piece titled, Historical Perspectives of African American Males as Subjects of Education Policy, which is forthcoming in the American Behavioral Scientist. He is the recipient of numerous grants and fellowships, including, the Tashia F. Morgridge Wisconsin Distinguished Graduate Fellowship (2005-2006) and the (2005-2006) American Educational Research Association Minority Fellowship for his research on the way African American male teachers conceptualize and respond to the socio-historical realities of African American male students.
