BIOGRAPHY

I am interested in the effects of human activity on the transport of water and water-borne constituents from land to sea, and how changes in these inputs alter ocean ecosystems. In my field studies, I frequently take advantage of stable isotopes and other natural markers to track the fate of water, organic matter and nutrients. I have ongoing projects in the Arctic that emphasize responses and feedbacks to global warming. Farther south, I am exploring alterations in the Gulf Coast environment in response to changing land-use practices and increasing demands for fresh water.
