UT RAISING FUNDS AT HISTORIC PACE

UT Tower
The University has raised more than $300 million from donors during the current fiscal year, which does not end until Aug. 31. If it continues at the current pace, UT Austin will have its best fundraising year in history, surpassing the $366 million raised in 2008. THE 130TH SPRING COMMENCEMENT

Gold medal Olympic sprinter, humanitarian and Texas Ex Sanya Richards-Ross will deliver the keynote address during the 130th Spring Commencement on Saturday, May 18. DELL MEDICAL SCHOOL CONSTRUCTION PLAN UNVEILED

Dell Medical School construction plan
UT System Board of Regents today approved a $334 million plan to construct a medical school at the University. President Powers' proposal included constructing research, educational and administrative facilities, as well as a medical office building and parking garage totaling 515,000 square feet. Seton Healthcare Family and Central Health, two other partners in the medical school effort, would build a new hospital as part of the campus. The Dell Medical School is expected to open in summer 2016.

ACCLAIMED TEACHER AND RESEARCHER APPOINTED DEAN OF UNDERGRADUATE STUDIES

Brent Iverson
Chemistry professor and department chairman Brent Iverson has been appointed dean of the School of Undergraduate Studies. Iverson will take over the post vacated by inaugural Dean Paul Woodruff July 1. Read more about the highly decorated teacher and researcher.

AUSTIN ASSISTANT CHIEF TO HEAD UT POLICE DEPARTMENT

David Carter
Austin Police Department Assistant Chief David Carter was appointed UT Austin Police Chief Tuesday. Carter will lead the 130-member police force starting July 1 following an extensive nationwide search by the University. Carter will replace Robert Dahlstrom, who is retiring this month after seven years as chief. Read more about Carter's appointment.

THREE LONGHORNS NAMED STUDENT ACADEMY AWARD FINALISTS

Student Academy Awards
UT radio-TV-film graduate student Deja Bernhardt and alumni Russell O. Bush, MFA '12, and Brian Schwarz, MFA '12, are among 38 national finalists in the 2013 Student Academy Awards. The awards are the student version of the Oscars, sponsored by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. The Academy will announce the final winners next week. They will be flown to Los Angeles for a week of networking and a June 8 awards ceremony.
