Poet Robert Frost dedicated  Hogg Auditorium in 1933

Hogg Memorial Auditorium opened its doors in 1933 and was welcomed by students and faculty as a majestic center of culture on the 50-year-old campus. Beginning with its dedication by poet Robert Frost in 1933 and continuing through the 1970s, the 1,200-seat venue was the premier space for the performing arts in Austin. But with the expansion of the campus eastward and the construction of the Nancy Lee and Perry R. Bass Concert Hall and other facilities, Hogg's role lessened. By the 1980s the theater was beginning to show its age. Its condition continues to limit its viability for many modern productions. ENCORE!, a $12-million campaign, seeks to return Hogg to its original Art Deco splendor and provide a premier mid-sized theater for the university and Central Texas.
