ITS recycles computers

As outdated laptops, desktops, telephones and various electronics pile up in trash bins around the world, it becomes apparent that recycling isn’t just for bottles or paper anymore. Information Technology Services (ITS) is doing its part to reduce the number of computers that end up in landfills by recycling and repurposing old machines whenever possible. By recycling computers, ITS not only helps the environment, but also saves money, eliminates employee downtime and provides computer access to those in need. The computer recycling program at The UT Austin provides another benefit to recycling: it allows ITS to create test environments with repurposed machines before deploying a new piece of software or update in a “live” setting.
