HRC director set to receive award
for life's work

In an office tucked away on the third floor of the Harry Ransom Center (HRC), Thomas Staley is surrounded by his life’s work – books and manuscripts. Shelves that nearly reach the ceiling are filled with books and heaping piles of them cover a coffee table.

The cozy space has the feeling of a home den rather than an office. It’s here at his desk that Staley’s “adventures” begin each day. “There is a lot of adventure in this job,” he said. “It’s not a job really, more of a fascinating position.”

Day of remembrance for university community set for May 4

UT Remembers, a traditional day of remembrance honoring members of the university community who died in the previous year, will be held on the campus May 4. An 8:45 a.m. ceremony on the university’s Main Mall to lower the flags to half staff will begin the day’s events, which will include the UT Remembers program at 2 p.m. in the Tower Garden north of the Tower and Main Building. During the program, names of persons being remembered will be read aloud, and the Tower bells will toll in tribute.
