UNIVERSITY IN FOCUS

High school students participating in the UT Global Ethics and Conflict Resolution Summer Symposium record a video for peace to post in the Amnesty International campaign for Darfur on YouTube. Fifty students participated in the symposium, led by Professor of Communication Studies Madeline Maxwell, and explored conflict and effective resolution at all levels, from the personal to the international. University faculty led the students through critical and creative processes to acquire ethical and creative problem-solving strategies, conflict analysis methods and negotiation skills. Students learned to apply what they learned to mediating international negotiations and to running a meeting at school, so they could connect what they learned. Photo: Madeline Maxwell
