 Angelica Cadavid
Rong Feng, a graduate student who worked in genetic breeding and tissue research in China, and Dr. R. Malcolm Brown, a professor of molecular genetics and microbiology in the College of Natural Sciences, have developed a novel method for growing cotton fibers away from the mother plant in submerged cultures.

Angelica Cadavid
Feng and Brown harvest seeds from normal cotton plants grown in a greenhouse. The seeds will be used to grow fibers in submerged cell cultures that contain special nutrients.

Angelica Cadavid
Feng displays normal cotton bol fibers. The new method could produce a fiber that has better quality and more diverse traits.
