Activities
University Operations
University Operations meets most of the university’s operational needs, through construction planning, building maintenance, benefits administration, and many other services.
Campus Planning & Facilities Management
Campus Planning & Facilities Management (CPFM) is part of the University Operations portfolio. CPFM is responsible for planning, designing, and managing construction of new buildings and major renovation project and coordinates the campus capital improvement program. CPFM also manages existing buildings and infrastructure on campus through the following:
- Facilities Services works to create an exceptional physical environment on campus in an environmentally, socially, and economically responsible manner in building maintenance, custodial services, landscaping services, lock and key services, equipment repair, preventative maintenance, furniture repair, solid waste pick up and recycling, surplus property disposal, event support, and moving services to the university. The department actively reduces energy and water consumption, recycles paper and other materials, restores resources, and supports other campus sustainability efforts.
- Project Management and Construction Services (PMCS) manages all UT Austin construction and renovation projects under $4 million. PMCS provides services ranging from replacing windows for an entire building to purchasing furniture for a single office. The department aims for enduring and resource efficient performance throughout a building’s entire life cycle – from design to construction, operation, maintenance, renovation, and deconstruction. PMCS incorporates life cycle cost management into selecting materials and equipment and promotes environmental sensitivity in designing and constructing campus renovation projects.
- Utilities and Energy Management (UEM) is responsible for providing reliable and cost-effective electricity, chilled water, steam, de-ionized water, compressed air, emergency power, and elevator services for the majority of facilities on the main campus. UEM goes beyond compliance in meeting environmental laws and regulations while at the same time conserving resources. Despite campus growth, UEM has improved overall efficiency in order to meet campus energy needs without using more fuel.
- Technology Resources (TRecs) provides University Operations service units with information technology (IT) that enables the units to better serve the campus. As stewards of IT, TRecs ensures secure, reliable, and responsive IT systems, solutions and support. TRecs provides desktop support for hardware and software purchasing and installation and manages the health and security of University Operations IT systems. Staff manages software development and integration, and Web services in support of operations, including sustainability efforts.
Campus Safety and Security
Campus Safety and Security ensures safety on campus by overseeing Emergency Preparedness, Environmental Health and Safety, Fire Prevention Services, Parking and Transportation, and The University of Texas at Austin Police Department. The Parking and Transportation group leads efforts in promoting multiple modes of commuting to campus for students, faculty, and staff.
Principal Investigators are invited to participate in the Green Laboratory Initiative (GLI) pilot program. Green Labs support research while consuming less financial and natural resources.
