1. Permits
Required for Access and Parking: The University
of Texas at Austin requires a university permit
to access and park at all university properties
unless the vehicle is parked in a university
garage, parking meter, or loading zone (SECTION
VI: PARKING PERMITS).
2. Classes of Permits: The following provides general information on
several major, but not all, classes of permits
(SECTION VI: PARKING PERMITS).
A. Faculty/Staff:
1. Class "A" (Surface Faculty/Staff): Any
employee of The University of Texas at
Austin, who meets the requirements of
class "A" Permit
listed in Section VI: PARKING PERMITS. "A" permit
holders may park in designated class "A" parking
areas, "Longhorn" lots, and after
2 p.m. Monday through Friday and all day on
weekends in class "C" lots.
2. Class "F" (Surface or Garage Faculty/Staff): Any
employee of The University of Texas at
Austin, with a minimum 20-hour appointment,
who is not registered for more than 3
hours per semester, is eligible. "F" permit holders
may park in the "F" area, lot, or
garage designated on their permit or any "Longhorn" lots.
B. Student:
1.
Class "C" (Surface Commuting Student): Any registered or auditing student of The University
of Texas at Austin is eligible. "C" permit
holders may park in class "C" parking
areas or any "Longhorn" lots.
2.
Class "R" (Garage Resident Student): Any student who has a valid University of Texas
at Austin on-campus residence hall contract is
eligible. "R" permit holders
may park in the garage designated on their permit
on the floor/level designated for "R" parking
or any "Longhorn" lots.
3.
Class "S" (Garage Commuting Student): Any registered or auditing student of The University
of Texas at Austin living off-campus is eligible. "S" permit
holders may park in the garage designated on
their permit or any "Longhorn" lots.
C. Other:
1.
Class "D" (Faculty/Staff/Student
with Disabilities): Any faculty, staff, or student
of The University of Texas at Austin who has
a verifiable disability (SECTION
VI: PARKING PERMITS) is eligible. "D" permit
holders may park in class "D" and "A" parking
spaces. The university "D" permit
is required Monday
through Friday from 7:30
a.m. to 4:00 p.m. AND
vehicles must also
display the appropriate
disabilities plate
or valid identification
placard AT ALL TIMES.
2.
Class "M" (Motorcycle/ Moped/ Motor
Scooter): Any faculty, staff, or student of The
University of Texas at Austin with a motorcycle,
moped, or motor scooter is eligible. "M" permit
holders may park ONLY in class "M" parking
spaces.
3.
Class "N" (Evening Garage Permit): Anyone affiliated with The University of Texas
at Austin is eligible. "N" permit
holders may park in "Longhorn" lots daily or any of the university parking garages Monday through Thursday
evenings from 5
p.m. to 4 a.m. and
weekends (Friday from
5 p.m. to Monday
at 4 a.m.) in all
garages on a space-available basis.
3. Permit Restrictions: Purchase of a permit does not guarantee a parking
place on campus (SECTION
II: GENERAL PROVISIONS).
Purchase of a parking permit signifies that an
individual has been granted the privilege of
parking a vehicle on university property. Permit
holders are prohibited from lending or otherwise
allowing anyone to use their permit (SECTION
VI: PARKING PERMITS).
4. Permit Ownership:
Ownership of the permit remains with the university
and is not transferable (SECTION
VI: PARKING PERMITS).
5. UT Share Garage Pass: Any faculty or staff member eligible for any
faculty/staff permit may purchase a UT Share
Garage Pass, which allows participants a limited
number of discounted entries to university garages
on a space-available basis (SECTION
VI: PARKING PERMITS).
6. Visitors: All
visiting, event, and conference parkers must
have a permit to park on campus UNLESS parked
at a paid parking meter or a university parking
garage (SECTION VI: PARKING
PERMITS).
7. Loading Zones (LZ): Vehicle operators may park in a LZ for 30 minutes to load/unload a vehicle;
however, the operator must have the vehicle's
emergency lights flashing. There are no permits
required for LZ spaces. LZ spaces are in effect "At
All Times". Once the loading/unloading process
has been completed, the space must be vacated
and those not obviously in the process of loading
or unloading will be cited (SECTION
V: PARKING REGULATIONS).
8. Lot/Garage Closures: On occasion, the director of Parking and Transportation
Services, chief of police, the president of The
University of Texas at Austin, and the president's
designee may close certain parking lots and/or
parking garages for university sponsored events
(SECTION V: PARKING REGULATIONS).
9. Speed
Limit: The maximum speed limit at The University of
Texas at Austin properties is 15 miles per hour
(mph) on campus and10 mph in the garages at all
times, unless otherwise posted (SECTION
IV: TRAFFIC REGULATIONS).
10. Posted
Signs: Posted signs, whether permanent or temporary,
must be obeyed at all times. Posted signs take
precedence over painted curbs, pavement markings,
and designations shown on any university map
(SECTION V: PARKING REGULATIONS).
11. Parking
Improperly: Detailed parking requirements for parking on
university property are listed in SECTION
V: PARKING REGULATIONS.
12. Enforcement
and Impoundments: Failure to abide by these
regulations may result in the issuance of a
university citation, application of an immobilization
device, and/or impoundment of a vehicle may
also be the basis for disciplinary action for
students, faculty, or staff (SECTION
VII: ENFORCEMENT).
13. Appeal
of Citation: University parking and traffic citations may
be appealed within twelve (12) calendar days
from date of citation (SECTION
VII: ENFORCEMENT).
14. Bicycles,
Mopeds, Motor-Assisted Bicycles, and EPAMDS: All
must be operated in accordance with and conform
to the local, state, and federal regulations
(SECTION IV: TRAFFIC REGULATIONS).
15. Pedestrian
Rights and Duties: Pedestrians must obey all traffic
control devices. Pedestrians have the right-of-way
at marked crosswalks, in intersections, and
on sidewalks extending across a service drive,
building entrance, or driveway (SECTION
IV: TRAFFIC REGULATIONS).
16. Disabled
Vehicles: If
a vehicle becomes inoperable, a telephone call
must be made to Parking and Transportation Services (PTS) at (512) 471-6126. PTS will either render assistance or authorize
temporary parking. Temporary parking shall not
exceed 24 hours and must not create any obstruction
or hazard ( SECTION V: PARKING
REGULATIONS). |
