The University of Texas at Austin strongly supports efforts to reduce congestion and curb vehicle pollution in the Austin area. The University has established an active Alternative Transportation Program, entitled Green on the Go, that seeks to reduce the use of single occupancy vehicles by staff, faculty, students, and visitors.
PTS and Student Government has rolled out a pilot program called 24-5 that gets university students home from campus after midnight. The program is designed to give late-night Longhorns a safe and convenient way to get home and is geared around Perry-Castañeda Library (PCL). uRide, an Austin-based start up, will provide rides home from the PCL to students between the hours of 12 a.m. and 3 a.m., Sunday through Thursday. Rides each evening will be provided at no charge, thanks to sponsorship by PTS.
