Bike lockers are available for rent at each of the seven university parking garages. High security Cycle-Safe® bike lockers offer individual covered bike parking with key access. They are ideal for overnight parking, long-term storage, additional security, and for those commuters who just don’t like lugging around their U-Locks. Call 471-5891 or e-mail bicycle@www.utexas.edu to inquire about the lockers. The lockers will be rented at a cost of $48 a year (only $4 a month) in addition to a $30 fully refundable key deposit. Locker keys must be returned or renewed to receive your key deposit back. Like other PTS permits the cost is pro-rated on a monthly basis, but if you are returning a key early then a $5 processing fee does apply.
If your tires are a little low on air or if you just want to check your tire pressure, stop by any of the university parking garages and use a bike pump for free. These pumps can only be used on site and are compatible with both presta and schrader valves. For instructions, see How to Use Pumps.
For those of you who rode to campus only to realize you forgot your lock or if you just need a lock temporarily, you may now rent U-locks from each of the parking garages on campus. All locks are rented out on a weekly basis and must be used in accordance with university rules. Renters who do not return the lock or break a lock due to misuse will be charged a $35 fee. Make sure you have your ID with you in order to check out a lock.
All UT shuttles and many Capital Metro mainline buses have racks that hold up to two bikes. Loading a bike on the bus rack might seem intimidating if you’re not sure what to do. Just follow these simple steps (also printed on the racks):
- Pull up on the handle to lower the rack
- Place bike on the open slot nearest the bus
- Pull the wheel hook out and over your tire as close to the frame as possible.
If you lose or break a key, forget your combination, or your lock just won’t open, PTS provides a lock-cut service. You may call or e-mail us with a description of the bicycle, its location, the type of lock, and your Bike UT permit number. In order to release the bike, PTS will need to see a photo ID.
If you need a place to change or shower after your bike ride to campus you may use the facilities at Anna Hiss Gym or Bellmont Hall. With a valid UT ID, you are allowed to shower in the third floor Bellmont Hall locker rooms and Anna Hiss Gym locker rooms as well. Students and RecSports members are permitted to use Gregory Gym and the Recreational Sports Center as well. Lockers are available through RecSports for day use or semester long rental. See the RecSports site for further details.
UT students, faculty, staff, and visitors are required to register their bicycles with UT Parking and Transportation Services. This process can be completed online under My Parking Profile and your permit will be mailed directly to you. Registering your bike helps deter bike theft and return bikes to their rightful owners while helping the Bike UT program grow.
