1. What is the best way to renew or purchase my permit?

Go to the home page and click on "Purchase/Renew/Claim Permit" under My Parking Profile.

2. Who is allowed to park on the main campus?

Entrance to the main campus is controlled. Students with "C", "R", “M”, or "S" permits are not granted access to the main campus Monday - Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. when parking is restricted. Students can use loading zones for up to 30 minutes with the vehicles flashers on, based on space availability. Additionally, the first thirty (30) minutes in the garages are at no charge. Visitor parking is available in all eight university parking garages on a space-available basis at the daily rates.

3. What do I do when a parent or friend comes to visit me on campus?

They must use one of the eight parking garages located throughout campus. All day parking is available for up to $7.00 per ticket pulled.

4. Do I need to register my car if I park on campus?

Yes. It is required that all vehicles operated by students and staff are registered with Parking and Transportation Services.

5. Are there any public pay garages on campus?

Yes. The University of Texas at Austin has eight parking garages:

Brazos Garage (BRG) 210 E MLK Blvd
Guadalupe Garage (GUG) 1616 Guadalupe St
Manor Rd Garage (MAG) 2017 Robert Dedman Dr
San Antonio Street Garage (SAG) 2420 San Antonio St
San Jacinto Garage (SJG) 2401 San Jacinto
Speedway Garage (SWG) 105 E 27th Street
Trinity Garage (TRG) 1815 Trinity
27th Street Garage (TSG) 109 W 27th Street

6. Are tickets written over between sessions, summer sessions, holidays, weekends, and nights?

Yes. Citations are written throughout the entire year, 24 hours per day, 365 days per year whether school is in session or not. There is a grace period during registration periods in student lots only; please contact Parking and Transportation Services for those dates or check the PTS web page.

7. What happens if I just park there for a minute, or a friend or teacher told me to park there?

If you are in doubt, contact Parking and Transportation Services for the answer. A professor or friend may intend to be helpful, but will not be responsible for your citation. If you even stay for a minute or two, your vehicle is still as illegally parked as if it had been there all day.

8. Can I appeal a citation I don't think I should have received?

Yes. Students, faculty, and Staff can appeal in written form or verbally to the PTS Appeals Officer. A ticket must be appealed or paid within 12 days of issuance. Citations can also be appealed online. Click HERE for the on-line appeal form.

9. What are some ways to keep from getting parking citations?

  • Always have your permit displayed.
  • Always park completely between the white lines and don't block drives.
  • Obey timed parking zones like loading zones and meters.
  • Finally, when in doubt, refer to the parking brochure or web pages for maps, policies, and locations, or call Parking and Transportation Services.

10. I got a ticket I don't think I deserve. Why can't I just ignore it?

If you got a ticket, you shouldn't ignore it. If the officer made a mistake, we need to correct it. If they didn't and the mistake is yours then don't set yourself to get more tickets before the matter is straightened out. If you disagree with a ticket, appeal it within twelve (12) days. While it is fresh in your memory, present all of the facts in your appeal. Simply saying you didn't do anything wrong or that the officer made a mistake is not sufficient. You should give the Appeal's Officer as much information as possible on which to base a decision.

Invalid appeal reasons
Here are some of the most common defenses used in appealing tickets, all of which are normally rejected by the appeals boards:
1. "I admit I was illegally parked, but I was only gone a few minutes."
2. "I knew it was a no-parking zone, but cars park there all the time and never get ticketed."
3. "I was using my personal car for university business." (This defense is often used for parking at loading docks or other restricted areas.)
4. "I didn't know I couldn't park there."
5. "I was ill and had to use the restroom."

11. What options do I have for citation payments?

Go to My Parking Profile and pay online, in person at the Parking and Transportation Services Offices, by telephone with a credit card, or via US Postal Service

12. Have any fines changed in price?

Please refer to your current Parking and Traffic Regulations for fine structure as fines can change from year to year, or contact Parking & Transportation Services. An up-to-date copy of the Parking & Traffic Regulations is always available HERE.

13. Is my permit transferable to another vehicle?

Yes. You may use your hangtag for another vehicle that you drive. Permits are not transferable from person to person.

14. Is there any other way to get around campus besides my vehicle?

Parking and Transportation Services (PTS) provides a campus shuttle service to the campus community. Routes and times vary during the day so we suggest you visit the shuttle web site or obtain a brochure at the PTS Office. All shuttles are free with a valid UT Austin photo ID.

15. What happens if my permit is lost or stolen?

You must immediately complete a lost/stolen permit report and obtain a replacement permit. Cost for replacement is $5.00. If a lost or stolen permit is found on a vehicle, the car will be immobilized (booted)/towed and violator will be charged. Permit holders are responsible for citations issued to their permit regardless of vehicle ownership.

16. Does my permit expire on any certain date?

Yes. Please check the expiration date found on the front of each permit.

17. Can I get a refund on my permit if I leave school or don't need it anymore?

Yes. There are deadline dates that change each semester for receiving refunds. Typically, PTS will give a full refund up to the 12th class day of each semester. Refund amount depend upon when the permit is returned to PTS. Refunds for permits are only available during the academic year in which the permit is valid.

18. Does UT have meter parking on campus?

Yes. The meters on campus are provided and enforced by PTS. Meter parking is limited to 45 minutes and the cost is 25 cents per 15 minutes. If you receive a citation at a meter, follow the directions given on the rear of the ticket.

19. What do I do for football and basketball games?

Many of the commuter and staff lots around the stadium, arena, and surrounding areas are used for football and basketball parking. These lots can be accessed with a football or basketball permit only. Check the PTS web page for information regarding parking options during events.

20. Can I leave my car overnight in commuter lots?

A commuter "C" permit is not valid overnight in commuter lots west of IH35. Overnight parking is available in the "Longhorn Lots" lots located east of IH35 near UFCU Disch-Falk Field, with the exception of Lot 103 and portions of lot 104, which has restricted parking from 4 a.m. to 6 a.m.

21. What are Parking & Transportation Services operating hours, address, and phone number?
