International applicants without an M.S. degree are seldom competitive for admission. The typical successful international applicant to our science divisions has an M.S. degree and publications in biochemistry, chemistry, molecular biology, chemical engineering, pharmacology, pharmacokinetics, pharmaceutics or another relevant science. Successful international applicants to the Division of Pharmacy Administration generally have an M.S. degree in Pharmacy Administration. The Divisions of Pharmacy Practice and Pharmacotherapy admit only U.S. licensed Pharm.D.s for a combined M.S./residency program. Applicants from foreign countries not only must be eligible for admission to The University of Texas at Austin, and the College of Pharmacy, but must also prove, through examination, that they possess sufficient knowledge of English to comprehend the course of study. Written and spoken English abilities of entering students are assessed by the International Office during orientation. If that office recommends that a student enroll in Intensive English Communication courses, those courses will be REQUIRED by the College of Pharmacy.
The University of Texas at Austin maintains an International Office with advisers to assist international students with orientation to the campus and to answer questions regarding immigration status, academic matters not specifically within the province of academic advising, financial aid, health insurance, housing, legal questions, employment, income tax and social security regulations, and personal problems and concerns. The International Office serves in loco parentis in case of emergencies involving foreign students or their families.
