UT Austin:
College of Pharmacy Continuing Education

Live Programs

We offer a variety of live programs here at the College that involve a day or weekend or even a week of didactic or hands on learning on a number of different subjects. Our program lecturers are usually College faculty, experts in a particular field of pharmacy from all over the country or professionals who have experience that is relative to a particular group of pharmacists. All of our programs are ACPE approved. Please take the time to browse through the many programs that we offer in order to find one that meets your particular needs.

Diabetes
The University of Texas Diabetes Disease State Management Certificate Program

Who Should Attend? Pharmacists who want to gain specific skills such that they can incorporate into their practice a high level of care and service for their diabetic patients. The program is also excellent preparation for individuals planning to sit for the NABP examination in diabetes.

What is the Program Focus? In addition to the didactic portion of the program, the UT program provies hands-on, skill-based learning such that pharmacists leave the program with:

  • The ability to provide basic physical assessment services (i.e., diabetic foot checks and blood pressure monitoring) which will allow them to monitor diabetic patients.
  • A comprehensive knowledge of at least two popular glucose meters enabling them to recommend a meter to their customers as well as educate customers on the correct technique involved with using the meter to monitor their daily blood sugar.
  • A practical understanding of proper insulin injection techniques, needle selection, and insulin handling and storage such that pharmacists can effectively counsel patients on these important issues.
  • Experience writing SOAP notes resulting from multiple case study discussions and practical scenarios.

How Long is the Program? Following a home study portion, there is a two day workshop focused on skills-based exercises, case study discussions, and lectures given by clinical experts.

Program Costs/ACPE Credit:

2.6 CEU (26 contact hour) program - $610 (includes all lectures and workshops, printed and video materials, numerous meals, glucose meter, and continuing education credit).
