Biography
Dr. Janet C. Walkow is an experienced senior executive with expertise in both the scientific and business arenas. She provides an integrated perspective in process implementation, building effective teams and leading change management projects that have been the foundations of her success. With fifteen years of pharmaceutical industry experience in both R&D and corporate business functions, Janet's expertise in drug development combined with her ability and appreciation for business operations produces an accomplished blend of technical, analytical and management skills. Recognized as a results oriented team leader, Janet built her reputation on her proven ability to adapt to new situations and take command of the opportunities and challenges presented. She enjoys the trust and respect of senior management and communicates effectively at all organizational levels. These skills have proven valuable in her influential role to affect major cultural and organization change. Building on her successes in Strategic Planning, Human Resources, Project Management, Merger and Acquisition activities, Janet continues to improve the performance of teams, systems and organizations in both the R&D and corporate environments. Trained in pharmacokinetics and pharmaceutical development at the University of Texas, Janet implemented innovative research programs at Merck Research Laboratories and Rhone-Poulenc Rorer where she was involved in all aspects of drug development activities leading to product registration. Janet's multiple exposures to a variety of projects and issues expanded her knowledge outside her areas of expertise and led to a variety of assignments, including Project Management, resulting in the successful development and marketing of global products. As a result of Janet's success in leading interdisciplinary teams, she was selected to head the Human Resources function for the U.S. Research & Development organization, as well as the French Clinical & Regulatory operations at Rhone-Poulenc Rorer where she established innovative approaches and developed a customer focused orientation for the scientific community. Janet built a reputation based on success that led to her transition from Research & Development into business operations. Her skills and experience allowed her to move into the Corporate Strategic Planning function where she implemented a strategic approach for the global operating plan using environmental analysis and worked with top company officials on global initiatives. During the multi-billion dollar acquisition, Janet was appointed to the Integration Executive Committee and the overall Coordination Team for integration activities. She was based in London and successfully headed all Communications for the integration. Extensive experience in managing pharmaceutical research and expertise in the drug development process has allowed Janet to drive strategic business and development opportunities with external partners. Her depth and scope of experience in both R&D and corporate business development gives her a unique perspective and understanding of the drug development process and the management structures and functions needed to optimize organizational design for effectively and efficiently bringing a product to the market successfully. As an active member in the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists, Janet recently served on the Executive Council as Member at Large and has held numerous leadership positions, including Chair of Strategic Planning Committee and Chair of the Pharmaceutics & Drug Delivery scientific section. In 2004, Janet received the AAPS Presidential Citation for leading the successful strategic re-visioning process for the association.
